Chemical Kinetics Course IB Chem SL
This topic mainly deals with the speed of the chemical reaction i.e. how fast the chemical reaction is taking place and which factors are affecting the same. We also cover interesting topics such as Maxwell Boltzmann Distribution& the role of catalyst in a chemical reaction. Chemical kinetics plays very important role in the industry as well as medicinal chemistry.

Description
In any given chemical reaction, there are 3 important aspects viz. Is this reaction feasible? (Energetics), Upto what extent? (Chemical equilibrium) & How fast? (Chemical Kinetics). Needless to mention, chemical Kinetics finds immense applications in the industry as well as medicinal chemistry. We learn how to define the rate of reaction & what are the practical methods to measure the rate of reaction. We understand how to determine the rate of reaction from the graph as well as in differential form.We study the Collision Theory which helps us in deeper understanding how any chemical reaction takes place & thus which factors influence the rate of reaction such as temperature, concentration etc. Interestingly, we study powerful tool, Maxwell Boltzmann Distribution curve to interpret the effect of temperature as well as catalyst on the rate of reaction. We understand how catalyst speeds up the reaction using fundamental concept of activation energy. We also see why typical transition metals such Vanadium, Platinum, Nickel etc are important catalysts in many industrial applications as well as role of enzymes in speeding up biochemical reactions.
